Today's post is sad for me to have to write. It's about a young person who died too soon and the family who is left behind devastated in it's wake. Monday night E received a call that his cousin had been injured in a motorcycle accident. He rushed to the hospital to be with his family, only to arrive as doctors pronounced him dead. Devin was twenty-one, a personal trainer and truthfully, much of what I know about him personally is from his Instagram and Twitter feed--after the fact. It pains me to write that. I remember the young boy he used to be, but since starting our family and E's parents divorcing and his mom's hospitalization, it seems we only see his extended family maybe once a year. Thanksgiving. And even that has been spotty. Not too long ago I was hospitalized and having a baby. . .and then last year there was the accident,
But what I do know for sure? This guy came from a good family. He adored his mom and sister. He was close to his dad and brother. He respected women and his body. He wasn't vulgar or rude posting about crazy night life activities. He was there for his cousins or friends when they needed him. And I regret that my kids didn't get to know him better. He seemed to be the kind of positive role model one would want in the lives of their children and for that I am truly saddened.
I hurt for my husband who has now had to see two cousins buried at way too young of an age. Initially he asked questions like why them and not him in his helplessness. But since, I've heard him minister to his uncle and talk about God's plan and that is nothing new for them. They are God loving people. They believe Devin is resting comfortably in the arms of the Lord. They hold tight to their faith as they wage war with the grief and sadness that comes from loving someone so much, but having to realize they are gone.
A motor cycle accident claimed his life but the lives he changed thru his personal training was inspiring. Is inspiring. While God readily welcomed Devin into His kingdom, we weren't ready for him to leave and need some help to honor his memory and lay him to rest.
