August 17, 2011

This little guy's diagnosis is leading to some changes around the house that we will ALL benefit from.
He is my pickiest eater of the bunch.
He's a snacker; however he has been cut off.
Opening the fridge, he will find an array of fruits and vegetables already cut and waiting for him.
Most meals now include one or more such fruits.
I've never been one to cook what he requests by any means.
He eats what we eat.
Some nights though he would barely touch anything and then be on the lookout for what he wanted later.
Not anymore.
Kitchen is closed.
We've also been talking more to him about why his eating better is so important.
We need to do what we can to keep him healthy and to try to fight off all the yucky germs he encounters--
especially at school.
We've been trying to explain that there are many kids who have sicknesses that require so much more than just a healthy diet.
Some of those kids he saw when we were at City of Hope...the ones we didn't think he really noticed as he was engrossed in his DS and we were too petrified for words.
He asked with wide eyes, "Like those kids that didn't have hair?"
"You know, the ones that had to wear masks?"
He noticed.
He totally noticed.
Yes, son.
I can barely speak I'm too choked up full of gratitude that is not our battle.
"I've been praying for them."
"Me too. Son. Me too."
And he finished everything on his plate.
