And in other news. . .
I've been busy around here livening up the place a little to welcome the Summer with open arms.
Our summer would not be complete without our garden boxes full of promising produce!  I'm hoping this year will be a little more successful than last year--and maybe it will be simply because the kids and I did it all by ourselves!!  We emptied it, worked in the new soil, and planted the plants with not much rhyme or reason, but I actually had a blast!  It was so much more enjoyable letting them decide where to put things and not trying to plan it out so perfectly, that in the end I was exhausted by correcting or constantly redirecting them. I am learning not to fight the tide. . .there is great joy in following their leads sometimes. . .
Especially when, let's face it--it really doesn't matter how it turns out because we tried our best and we will learn from our mistakes, so why not let them have the run of the garden box for a bit? Kids, you did phenomenal with this project:  Bubba, I'm so excited with the plants you picked!  And Lene, all your digging and planting will yield such great vegetables--I'm just sure of it!  Thank you for making me slow down, give up my idea of perfection and just enjoy our afternoon in the sun!
There was no discovery too small to stop what we were doing and engage in questions and answers.  We dreamed out loud, we talked of what-ifs and we sowed the seeds of love that afternoon.  In our backyard.  Together.  These are the types of things that beautiful summers are made of:  being together, making memories.
