May 15, 2011

In honor of my big girl's last show as a Shooting Star. . .
Here are some pictures.
After a two year stint, she has decided she is ready for a break.
I must admit, Dad and I were very happy to hear that.
We had already made the decision to take the Summer off; however, she decided to take a year.

She wants to pursue theater.
I think her role in the production of a high school play last spring, and Cinderella last summer at the college really planted the seed.
We tell her family comes first and she had to narrow down her outside activities. . .
so her final show as a Shooting Star was last night.

She won't be free long as she's already practicing for a role as a munchkin in a fall production of  "The Wizard of Oz." Six of her fellow stars are also in the production which makes for a smooth transition.
One hour one day per week. . .very doable for our schedule.
Mascot Lyrical

With Nina and Nino at intermission.

Grandma and Grandpa

Uncle Alan

Mom and Dad, of course

Cousin Lo who hung out backstage for much of the show.

She has made some great friends in the past two years.
She loves her coaches and will miss the team; however, she seems excited for the new opportunities that are before her.
I'm happy that she kept her commitment to the team even though the past month has been a struggle.
She longs for some time alone with mom and dad--she wants her brother to join something so she has some time with us by herself.

Juggling it all is so hard sometimes.
I want her to love the Lord, be a shining light to those she meets, do well in school, be well rounded and involved in things she enjoys, but sometimes it seems our priorities are messed up as we drop her off for five to six hours of dance a week--yes, you read that right.
That's a lot of practicing when she is in two routines.
Two.
That's a lot of time away from us.
That's a lot of time we miss out on training her, enjoying her, doing things with her.
So in exactly one week this chapter of our lives will close.
I'm learning if it feels like it's just too much--
then it is!
Enjoy them , love them, teach them, savor them...
Every day in every moment.

  2. gosh, my heart is so with you in this post. starting in fall Taylor will be in Daisies, soccer, gymnastics and possibly ballet. That's at least 5 hours a week that she will be under the influence of someone else and we won't all be together. it's a hard choice because you want them to try so much and find something they love, but at what cost?
